Street & Nye ? 7 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 22
I am planning on climbing Street and Nye this coming Thursday but have heard that the Indian brook has broken open from the warm weather. I have seen on another forum that the brook has refrozen and is passable just down stream from the normal crossing. I contacted High Peaks info at the LOJ today (tues) and they said they show the brook as still being impassable. Does anyone know if the brook is passable near the herd path to Street and Nye?. Thanks for any info. Ed

Ed, if I were you I'd haul a pair of fly-fishing waders with you to cross the brook in, then stash them nearby before you head further up to S&N. It'd be dead weight if the stream wound up frozen, but it's something to think about.

Where there's a will...there's a way.

Hey Steve thanks for your good suggestion but when I showed my friend John my chest waders he declined carrying them.

I guess I will have to answer my own question. Today (thurs) we climbed Street and Nye from the Loj and when we reached Indian brook we found that it was frozen all the way across but by sounding the ice with our poles we found several places of very thin ice. However we did find safe ice and were able to cross the brook at its normal trail crossing. It was zero degrees when we left the LOJ parking lot so since it is going to be very cold for the rest of this week I would assume that the brook is going to be very safe to cross by this weekend. Ed
